 Position Overview

The Twins Universal Business Co. Ltd is private limited liability company looking for a qualified furniture workshop manager to create custom furniture using wood, metal, cloth, and a variety of tools—for its new furniture making workshop located in Geita, Tanzania, East Africa.

 Some of the Workshop Manager’s roles will be

• Craft custom furniture using different types of wood, metal, cloth, paint, stain, and other materials.
• Employ a variety of tools, such as table saws, sanders, wood burning tools, chisels, sewing machines, and torches.
• Create furniture designs for corporations to use when designing furniture that can be crafted at a reasonable price and sold in mass quantities.
• Sell hand-crafted furniture in an owned shop, online, or through partnerships with other shop owners.
• Consulting with clients and or customers to find out their needs and begin working towards a concept.
• Drafting a design on paper.
• Sourcing wood from specialist suppliers and timber merchants.
• Working with the wood, cutting, edging and shaping according to design plans.
• Assembling the piece and affixing parts together.
• Treating the wood with polish to protect it and finalise aesthetics.

 Required Skills

 Work activities

• Conferring with production, design, and sales personnel to obtain design suggestions and customer orders.
• Sketching freehand design of article.
• Obtaining approval from customer, design committee, or authorised company officials.
• Preparing or directing preparation of blueprints containing manufacturing specifications, such as dimensions, wood type, and upholstery fabrics to be used in manufacturing article.
• Attending staff conference with plant personnel to explain and resolve production requirements.
• Designing and preparing detailed drawings of jigs, fixtures, forms, or tools required to be used in production.
• Designing custom pieces or styles according to specific period or country.
• Building or overseeing the development of prototype products and workshop management.

Work Conditions

As a Workshop Manager you will work indoors, either alone, in teams or with helpers. The job can be physically demanding and often involves working with high—speed woodworking machinery. As with all careers in the construction industry, safety is the top priority. Workshop Manager will monitor safety and use safety gears to protect against injury.
